Shocking Report Reveals True Modern Day Numbers of Students who Suffer from Anxiety and Depression!

In a Monday, January 11th 2010 article that was published on the popular British online news medium, Morning Star, the findings reveal a new health report that offers some modern day statistical input on the true numbers of students who suffer from anxiety and depression. These numbers, according to this report, up are up five times higher than they were in late 30s.

The article, which was entitled, “Five times more suffer anxiety than in Depression,” specifically cites,

“A new study has found that five times as many secondary school and university students in the US are dealing with anxiety and other mental health issues than people of the same age who were studied in the Great Depression era. The findings, culled from responses to a popular psychological questionnaire used as far back as 1938, confirm what counselors on campuses nationwide have long suspected as more students struggle with the stresses of school and life in general. Overall, an average of five times as many students in 2007 surpassed thresholds in one or more mental health categories, compared with those who did so in 1938.

Though the study, released on Monday, does not provide a definitive correlation, mental health professionals think that a popular culture focused on the material - from wealth to looks and status - has contributed to the increase in mental health problems.
The study also showed increases in "psychopathic deviation," which is loosely related to psychopathic behavior in a much milder form and is defined as having trouble with authority.”
